ANA brings back Hawaiian-inspired sea turtle livery
All Nippon Airways (ANA) is bringing back blue, green and orange sea turtles to Hawaii in summer 2024. On July 1, ANA will resume operations of its Airbus A380 FLYING HONU flights between Tokyo Narita and Honolulu, as international passenger demand recovers and travel restrictions are easing.
Since its inauguration flight in May 2019, the FLYING HONU has attracted travelers and plane spotters around the world with ANA's message of preserving Hawaii's great nature. Sea turtles, known as "Honu" in the Hawaiian language, symbolize good luck and prosperity. The blue "Honu" livery represents Hawaii's blue skies, the green for the crystal-clear water of the Pacific Ocean and the orange refers to the beautiful island sunsets.
Qatar Airways reveals Expo 2023 Doha special livery
Qatar Airways unveiled a new Expo 2023 Doha special livery on an Airbus A330-300 to commemorate its role as the Official Strategic Partner for the landmark sustainability and innovation six-month event.
Qatar Airways will also offer an enriched in-flight experience from Oct. 11, 2023, featuring curated beverages and an exclusive à la carte menu spotlighting Qatari farm-sourced ingredients, along with Expo-themed in-flight entertainment. This includes a dedicated Expo channel offering over 30 gardening-related shows, ensuring a memorable horticultural experience in-flight.
Expo 2023 Doha, will run from October 2023 to March 2024 at the Al Bidda Park, and is anticipated to draw around 3 million international visitors. Overlooking the Arabian Gulf, the six-month event will feature a diverse array of experiences including beautiful gardens, enlightening talks, art, cuisine, and a special emphasis on innovative approaches to combat desertification.
LATAM supports Pan American Games
LATAM Airlines unveiled a special Boeing 787-8 livery in partnership with the Pan American Games, which are scheduled to take place between Oct. 20 and Nov. 5, 2023, while the Parapan American Games will be held from Nov. 17-26, 2023. The multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities will have 31 nations and 423 events in 17 different sports.
Copa Airlines’ special livery supports early cancer testing
Panama-based Copa Airlines, which has been committed to the fight against breast and prostate cancer for over two decades, joins the Pink Ribbon initiative through the “Get Tested Early” campaign. To convey this special message of awareness and prevention, Copa Airlines introduces their newly designed Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft that will take flight throughout the Americas. Qatar Airways unveiled a special Formula 1 livery on a Boeing 777 as the airline announced its title sponsorship of the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2023, which will be held Oct. 6-8 at Lusail International Circuit.
Volaris unveils Barbie livery on A320neo
Mexican LCC Volaris unveiled a special “Barbie” livery ahead of the July 21, 2023 release of the Barbie movie. The A320neo will serve beach destinations.
South Africa’s Airlink rolls out black special livery
Airlink, Southern Africa’s independent and privately owned regional airline, unveiled a special-liveried Embraer E195 that sports a classy jet-black paint scheme. The aircraft, which will operate on Airlink’s main domestic and regional trunk services, promotes Airlink’s recently launched Skybucks customer loyalty program. Black is the pinnacle Skybucks tier and a cachet reserved exclusively for the select group of the airline’s most loyal high-flyers.
ANA launches 'Eevee Jet NH’ Pokémon livery
All Nippon Airways (ANA) and the Pokémon Company are expanding their collaboration with “Pokémon Air Adventures” by launching a second uniquely painted aircraft, the “Eevee Jet NH.” The aircraft will enter service on Aug. 31, 2023, featuring a range of specialty products and services including merchandise and inflight entertainment.
ANA Group and The Pokémon Company previously collaborated on the first Pikachu Jet NH, which took its first flight on June 4, 2023.
According to ANA, “Eevee has the potential to evolve into various forms. Eevee and its Evolutions, such as Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, are depicted decisively moving forward into the future together with Pikachu. With an air of hope, they take off on a journey into the skies together with people flying to new places.”
Allegiant special livery dedicated to Insomniac fans
Allegiant Travel Company unveiled a special addition to its fleet: a vibrant, one-of-a-kind Insomniac-themed livery designed for Electronic Dance Music (EDM) fans and beyond. The new livery, displayed on the fuselage and tail of an Airbus A320, evokes a festive vibe, created in the spirit of the world's largest dance music festival, Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), .as demand for live events is at an all-time high.
Korean Air features K-pop group on 777
Korean Air unveiled a unique Boeing 777 featuring the K-pop group BLACKPINK on its fuselage. The new livery supports Korea's bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Busan and promotes the airline’s sponsorship of the globally sensational K-pop girl group. BLACKPINK is on a world tour to meet its millions of fans and, in March, Korean Air announced its partnership as the world tour’s official airline sponsor. The special livery began its journey on May 4 departing from Seoul Incheon for Paris Charles de Gaulle and make stops at multiple destinations served by the airline’s global network.
Southwest’s ‘Imua One’ livery observes first interisland Hawaii service
Southwest Airlines introduced “Imua One,” a special livery on the anniversary of its first interisland flights within Hawaii, commemorates beginning a fifth year of serving the Aloha State. Imua One is a Hawaii-themed aircraft livery, painted on a Boeing 737 MAX 8, that symbolizes an enduring partnership between the Hawaiian Islands and Southwest Airlines. Imua is a rallying cry in the Hawaiian language that translates to an urging forward, and it underscores a key value at Southwest—teamwork.
Frontier Airlines unveils ‘Bori the Coqui Llanero’ on A321neo
Denver-based ULCC Frontier Airlines—known for bringing awareness to endangered species on its tails—recently unveiled ‘Bori the Coqui Llanero’ painted on the tail of a newly leased Airbus A321neo from Aviation Capital Group. The Puerto Rican lowland coquí is one of the smallest tree frogs in the world. Mature llaneros are no wider than a dime and generally yellowish in color. Their tiny stature squeezes their vocal range into the highest pitch of almost any frog—just barely audible to human ears, making the sound they are so famously known for and named after—“Ko-Kee.” The coquí llanero is listed as endangered under the US Endangered Species Act.
ANA, Pokémon Air Adventures to launch special Pikachu Jet livery
All Nippon Airways (ANA) and the Pokémon Company have teamed up under the “Pokémon Air Adventures” to launch its specially painted “Pikachu Jet” on June 4, 2023. The collaboration will include a series of special products and services including original goods and inflight entertainment. With easing travel restrictions, the “Pokémon Air Adventures” is a project set to elevate the excitement of travel with the world of Pokémon.
AirBaltic’s A220 flies with Latvian flag livery
AirBaltic unveiled its 40th Airbus A220-300 in Latvian flag livery, honoring the long-standing collaboration ties between Latvia and Canada. The airBaltic A220, registered as YL-ABN, is planned to join the airline’s fleet in early April 2023. This is the second A220-300 in the airline’s fleet with a special Latvian flag livery.
Finnair marks 100th anniversary with Moomin special livery
To celebrate Finnair’s 100th anniversary in November 2023 and to mark the centenary, the Finland flag carrier is featuring beloved Moomin characters on the livery of two Airbus A350 aircraft for the whole year. Leading characters Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden are featured.
The Moomin aircraft will fly to various destinations in Finnair’s worldwide network, such as London, Dallas, Tokyo and Bangkok.
Finnair CEO Topi Manner said, “Moomins represent friendship, community and going on adventures together, so they are a great fit for our values. Customers will be able to see the centenary in many ways throughout 2023, as we remember our heritage and look forward to the next 100 years.”
In addition to the Moomin livery, Finnair Technical Operations in Helsinki have painted the centenary slogan: “Bringing us together since 1923” on three other aircraft—two A320s and an A350.
Frontier Airlines’ new A321neos feature ‘Ozzy the Orca’
Frontier Airlines traditionally features on its tails animals that call the oceans, forests and plains home to bring awareness and education to the public. The Denver-based ULCC recently unveiled Ozzy the Orca painted on the tail of its newly delivered Airbus A321neos.
Emirates unveils new Spanish Super Cup livery
Emirates Airline, which is the official main sponsor of Real Madrid, welcomed the Spanish football club onboard a specially chartered A380 flight from Madrid to Riyadh in early January 2023. The iconic double-decker aircraft featured a new livery with some of the club’s top players.
The club made their way to the Saudi capital ahead of the Spanish Super Cup semi-final match versus Valencia on Jan. 11, 2023.
The bespoke decal includes a group shot of renowned Nacho Fernández, Dani Carvajal, Thibaut Courtois, Karim Benzema (center), Luka Modrić, Tony Kroos and Vini Jr and covers more than 125 sq m on each side of the aircraft. The decal will remain on the A380 aircraft for five months with scheduled services around the world including London Heathrow, New York and Melbourne.
Turkish Airlines debuts UEFA Champions League special livery
Turkish Airlines, the first airline to sponsor UEFA Champions League, designed a special aircraft to celebrate UEFA Champions League. Turkish Airlines redesigned one of its Airbus A330s to honor the UEFA Champions League, which will host its 2023 final in Istanbul. Featuring its TC-JNM tail number, the UEFA Champions League-themed aircraft flew for the first time after its new makeover on Jan.1, 2023 during flight TK1821 from Istanbul Airport to Paris.
