LOT Polish Airlines has started to retire members of its Embraer short-haul fleet as it prepares to welcome its new fleet of Airbus A220s.

LOT operates a combined fleet of 45 Embraer E1s and E2s, including all four variants of the E1 family (170, 175, 190 and 195). In 2004, the Polish flag-carrier was the first airline globally to launch a commercial flight with the Embraer 170, when one of its aircraft operated a Warsaw-Vienna sector.

The national carrier has now taken two Embraer 175s out of service. LOT operates the 175 on both domestic and regional European services in a two-class, 82-passenger configuration.

The two aircraft, which were both delivered in 2006, have already been withdrawn from scheduled service and prepared for return to their lessor, according to a LOT spokesperson. “In accordance with the lessor’s decision, LOT repositioned these aircraft to designated locations. The aircraft will remain there pending the lessor’s decision regarding their next operator or other arrangements for their future use.”

Two further 175s from the same lessor will continue in service until autumn this year.

“These changes are part of LOT’s regional fleet renewal and modernization program, as well as preparations for the delivery of Airbus A220 aircraft next year,” the spokesperson added.

At the 2025 Paris air show, LOT placed a firm order for 20 A220-100s and 20 A220-300s. Deliveries are to begin in 2027, with initial aircraft being the larger -300 model. If all options are exercised, the A220 fleet may grow to as many as 84 aircraft.
