Mexicana has begun the second phase of the introduction of its fleet of Embraer small narrowbody jets with the arrival of the first of its E190 E2s at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), Santa Lucía.

The Mexican airline ordered 20 E2s – split equally between the E190 and the larger E195 – in 2024. Five of the larger variants have already been delivered, with the first of its E190s now also in service.  Further E190s are scheduled for delivery in the second half of this year, with the entire 20-strong order expected to be in place by the end of 2027.

The E195 E2s have a cabin configuration of 132 seats, in a single-class layout; the E190 E2s have 108 seats, again in a single class, for thinner routes where the E195 E2 would offer too much capacity.

“The arrival of this sixth aircraft represents a firm step in Mexicana's expansion as part of the process of consolidating its fleet, which will consist of a total of 20 aircraft by the end of 2027,” the airline said as it welcomed the first E190 E2.

The state-owned carrier said that the latest aircraft’s arrival reflected “the institutional commitment to achieving its strategic objectives and contributing to the country's economic, social, and tourism development.

“The addition of this state-of-the-art aircraft will allow Mexicana to strengthen its operational capacity and advance its mission to connect Mexico by bringing more people, regions, and opportunities closer together through an efficient, accessible, and safe air transportation network.”
