The first cover of this magazine, published Aug. 1, 1916, did not feature an aircraft. Rather, it showed a view from an aircraft looking down on a naval aviation camp along the coast of Bay Shore, New York. At the time, an image from such a vantage point was still a novelty. The cover of Aviation Week & Space Technology’s 110th anniversary issue features a SpaceX Starship spacecraft in flight with its six Raptor engines still firing. The image was captured July 24 by a camera aboard Starship’s Super Heavy booster as it was returning to Earth during SpaceX’s 13th test flight.
