Embraer aircraft are expanding their presence in West Africa with leases to two airlines in the region.

Greece-based Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) specialist Marathon Airlines has struck new or expanded deals with United Nigeria Airlines and Camair-Co of Cameroon.

Under a new partnership with United Nigeria, Marathon has signed a one-year ACMI contract  that came into effect at the start of November. “Under this partnership, we’ll be providing an Embraer E190 to support their operational needs,” Marathon said on its Linked In feed.

United Nigeria, which is based at Enugu International Airport, in the south of the country, already operates Embraers in the form of four 50-seat ERJ-145s. The airline flies to 11 domestic destinations and, with passenger demand anticipated to increase, Marathon intends to add two more E190s to its contract in Q1 2025.

In neighboring Cameroon, meanwhile, Marathon is expanding on its existing collaboration with flag-carrier Camair-Co by adding a second aircraft – an E175 – to its existing contract with the Yaoundé-based company.  The airline already flies an E195, together with a Boeing 737-700 and a pair of DHC Dash 8-400 turboprops. The two Marathon aircraft will be in West Africa for more than two years.

“This expanded agreement, now extended through December 2026, strengthens our shared goal of delivering reliable and efficient service to passengers in Central Africa,” Marathon said.

Marathon’s sister company Cronos Airlines has supported Camair-Co’s operations since 2019.
