SINGAPORE—With the addition of two more Embraer E190-E2s, Singapore-based LCC Scoot is expanding its regional network with two new destinations in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The airline plans to rejigger its network and fleet composition, swapping out the Airbus A320 for the E190-E2 on some destinations. The two new E2s will bring Scoot’s E190-E2 fleet to four aircraft.

Among the new destinations, twice-weekly flights to Kertajati, Indonesia, will start Sept. 28, while 5X weekly flights to Malacca, Malaysia, will start Oct. 23. Kertajati (KJT) primarily serves the Indonesian city of Bandung, 68 km (42 mi.) away. It is also the country’s second-largest airport in terms of area after Jakarta, although built with a passenger capacity of 29 million.

Scoot’s new E190-E2s will also allow for an increase in frequencies on various routes. Flights between Singapore and Pekanbaru, Indonesia, will rise from 3X weekly to 5X weekly; flights to the Indonesia destinations Balikpapan and Nakassar will increase from 3X to 4X weekly in October. Beginning in November, flights to Davao, Philippines, will increase from 7X to 9X weekly and flights to Vientiane, Laos, will go from 3X to 4X weekly.

The E190-E2 also will start flights to Kuala Lumpur Subang airport in Malaysia starting Sept.1.

Scoot CEO Leslie Thng told Aviation Week in April that he believes the Embraer airliners will not only allow the LCC to right-size the fleet, but also offer more frequencies and flight options on these leaner routes for both transit and origin destination passengers.
