LATAM Embraer E195-E2
As it prepares to mark a milestone with its first Embraer E2 delivery during the fourth quarter, LATAM Airlines Group has not yet decided whether to exercise options it holds for additional aircraft.
Latin America’s largest airline group placed an order for 24 E195-E2s last year, and at the recent IATA Annual General Meeting the carrier stated the aircraft are pegged for Brazil’s domestic market. LATAM plans to announce new destinations for the smaller jets at the end of July ahead of planned deliveries beginning in the fourth quarter. The company holds options for 50 additional aircraft.
Celebrating LATAM’s first painted E2 in a social media post, the company’s CEO Roberto Alvo stated, “What will happen to the options? We have not decided, but within our analyses we are also considering some of the other countries where we have operations.” In addition to Brazil, LATAM has franchises in Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador.
Pointing to LATAM’s aircraft options with Embraer, Alvo explained during an investor conference in March, “That’s why we created that scenario; so that we can increase the size of the fleet. I think for the time being, we’re focused on first deliveries.”
Previously, LATAM said the E2s would be based in Sao Paulo Guarulhos, Brasilia and Fortaleza.
