Romanian carrier Animawings is joining the Airbus A220 family, with the arrival of its first example of the type imminent.
The airline is an A320 user, but plans to make the smaller A220 the mainstay of its fleet. Two are expected to be delivered by the end of this year, with more scheduled to arrive in 2025. The aircraft are understood to be leased examples.
Earlier this year, the owner of Animawings, Marius Pandel, told Aviation Week that it aimed to be the first Romanian operator of the A220-300. “With the aircraft we will operate, we will not be a low-cost business model, but a company that offers flight and travel experiences, positioned correctly in the price range versus quality offered, with various routes to business and leisure destinations.”
The carrier flies, or plans to fly, domestic services between several Romanian cities, and from Romania to destinations including Dubai, Marrakesh and Larnaca. Bucharest-Stockholm Arlanda services are scheduled to start in Spring 2025.
In late October, website www.wall-street.ro cited Pandel as saying that three A220s were on the final assembly line at Airbus’s Mirabel, Montreal plant, with the first two scheduled for delivery in December and the third likely to arrive in January 2025.
Pandel told the website that two more examples are planned to arrive in Q2 and Q3 next year, with three more hopefully arriving in 2026.
The initial aircraft will be outfitted with a two-class cabin, with 12 business-class and 125 economy-class seats.
