ACMI and charter specialist German Airways is undertaking a rebranding exercise to emphasize its origins and strengthen its image on airport aprons.
The Cologne-based carrier is sending its fleet of eight Embraer E190s for what it describes as a comprehensive rebrand. The first repainted aircraft has now left the maintenance hangar at Cologne/Bonn Airport with others to follow throughout the year.
The new livery more clearly reinforces the airline’s identity through a stylized black, red and gold representation of the German flag on the tailfin. The aircraft’s winglets are also now painted in the flag’s colors.
“After almost five years of use, the German Airways brand has become firmly established in the European market,” MD Maren Wolters said. “We are delighted to be able to present the new look almost simultaneously with the start of the current summer flight schedule.
”As a service provider with typically German quality characteristics such as reliability and high technical performance, we would also like to take the next visual step.”
German Airways is the country’s second-oldest airline, having been founded (as WDL Aviation) in 1955.
The airline’s most important business is the wet-lease sector, with most of the fleet operated on behalf of KLM Cityhopper – whose name now also appears more prominently than before on the fuselage.
“We are very proud that we are able to integrate the logo of our strategic partner into the new design – a very important symbol of the appreciation of our performance.” Wolters said.
