SINGAPORE—Boeing announced the first major narrowbody order of the Singapore Airshow on Feb. 3, unveiling a deal with Air Cambodia for up to 20 737 MAXs.
The sale was signed on the Boeing booth at the show. The order was previously listed under Boeing's Orders and Deliveries as being to an unidentified customer.
Few details were given, but a spokesperson said it was 10 firm 737-8 orders “with the opportunity for 10 more.” No delivery times were given.
The order will also be a win for CFM International because the CFM LEAP is the exclusive engine for all MAX variants.
The deal is significant because it marks the first sale of Boeing airliners to Cambodia, said Brad McMullen, Boeing Commercial's SVP of sales and marketing. Air Cambodia’s current fleet consists of two Airbus A320s, one A321 and four ATR 72s.
Air Cambodia Chairman Mao Havannall and CEO David Zhan were at the signing ceremony, as was U.S. Assistant Secretary Commerce David Fogel, who praised the deal as an example of the benefits a partnership between governments, industry and airlines could produce.
Phnom Penh-based Air Cambodia is owned by the Cambodian government.
