Lufthansa Technik Adds 287 Apprentices Across Five German Facilities

Lufthansa Technik marks its 70^th year of vocational training with the start of 287 new apprentices spread across five of its facilities in Germany. It received about 1,700 applications for the training positions that are a key pillar of the MRO’s workforce development.

“Lufthansa Technik invests a mid-five-figure Euro amount in each technical student per year, reflecting the comprehensive nature of the program,” says Svea Jacobsen, head of entry level programs.

The students preparing for entry-level careers have two paths through this program: either the full-time apprenticeship or a dual-study program. The latter combines studying and working and allows them to “apply theoretical knowledge directly in a real business environment,” Jacobsen says. Those students typically earn their bachelor’s degree upon completing the program.

The apprenticeship training program evolves each year to accommodate the company’s needs. “Following detailed discussions with each business segment, we recruit students based on identified demand, ensuring we attract and develop the talent needed for the future while making targeted investments in the next generation of professionals,” Jacobsen says.

Of the 287 in this year’s program, 220 trainees are at the company’s Hamburg headquarters. Of those, 191 are apprentices at the MRO or logistics division, and 29 are dual students studying aviation, engineering and computer science.

In Frankfurt, 26 trainees are at Lufthansa Technik, and 10 are dedicated to Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services.

Twenty trainees started at Lufthansa Technik Aero Alzey, two at the Munich logistics division, and 19 trainees will start Sept. 1 at N3 Engine Overhaul services, the joint-venture with Rolls-Royce in Arnstadt.

Now that this year’s program is underway, Lufthansa Technik has opened its application period for the 2027 apprentice cohort.
