Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company Limited (GAMECO) has inducted Emirates’ Airbus A380 into its Guangzhou facility for a 12-year check, the first time Emirates has outsourced the check to another company.

GAMECO said on Aug. 8 that the aircraft was inducted on July 14.

The company has been operating heavy maintenance for the Middle Eastern carrier since January 2024.

The Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database shows Emirates has 90 in-service A380s, 15 stored and 13 either parked or in reserve. Of the 90 in-service aircraft, 26 are more than 12 years old.

Homebase carrier China Southern Airlines was China’s only operator of the A380, having flown five of the super jumbo jets since 2011.

China Southern operated the type’s last commercial flight in November 2022 and has sent all five to the Mojave “aircraft graveyard” for long-term storage.
