Singapore – China Airlines' MRO division has inducted its first Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM nearly three years after it joined Pratt’s GTF MRO network.

The airline’s engineering and maintenance organization will have disassembly, assembly and test capabilities for the GTF engine in Taiwan.

China Airlines (CAL) becomes the 14th active shop and sixth in Asia-Pacific to service the GTF engines, after Eagle Services Asia in Singapore, IHI and MHI in Japan, and MTU Maintenance Zhuhai and Ameco Beijing in China.

The flag carrier currently has 10 GTF-powered Airbus A321neo in service with another 15 on order. It also opted for Pratt’s EngineWise Maintenance as a long-term agreement covering the GTF engine fleet.

While CAL’s GTF engines remained relatively unaffected by the reliability issues faced by some Asian carriers, the delivery of the A321neos from Airbus were delayed by several weeks due to disruption and slowdowns in the supply chain.
