Another important advantage of the engine is increased load capacity. The HTS900 adds 208shp to the helicopter compared to the legacy engine, without an increase to the size of the propulsion system.

The safety and reliability of air travel owe as much to evolving mandate and safety rules as they do to aircraft engineering and design.

Whether or not managing fatigue on the flight deck can deliver savings to airlines, and ultimately passengers is an open question.

The 737 MAX, dubbed 1A001, took off from Boeing's Renton runway on January 29 at 9.46 am and climbed to the north over Lake Washington before transiting to the west to conduct initial handling tests over the Olympic peninsula. It returned to Boeing Field, Seattle, where it landed at 12.32 pm in crosswinds of around 14 kts, representing challenging conditions for a first touchdown.
