New Unleaded Avgas
Two new 100-octane unleaded fuels, Swift Fuels 100R and Lyon-dell-Basell/VP Racing UL100E, could become available in 2025 for operators of piston-engine aircraft. The government-industry-backed Eliminate Aviation Gasoline Lead Emissions initiative aims to phase out leaded avgas by 2030.
Spoofing and Jamming
Global Navigation Satellite System jamming and spoofing will continue to increase in intensity and sophistication.
Fractional Ownership
Fractional aircraft flight hours will keep growing, outpacing demand for charter and corporate flights.
Starlink Competition To Arrive
Gogo’s Galileo satellite and 5G air-to-ground systems are scheduled to enter service in 2025—and to put a dent in Starlink sales.
Maintenance Slots
Aircraft will travel farther for maintenance slots, especially for pre-buy inspections. Maintenance capacity will remain tight; engine maintenance, repair and overhaul turnaround times in particular will lag.
Next-Gen Tech
Expect development strides in windowless aircraft—with video screens replacing passenger windows—as well as hydrogen and electric propulsion.
M&A Still Hot
Steady sector growth is attracting new investors that see a market ripe for consolidation and scale.
USM and PMA
Business aviation operators, especially larger ones, will grow more open to used serviceable material and parts manufacturer approval parts and seek best practices from airlines for their usage.
AAM Certifications
Neither Archer Aviation nor Joby Aviation will have their electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing vehicles (eVTOL) certified in 2025, but Beta Technologies’ Alia conventional-takeoff-and-landing vehicle will be in the U.S., while China will certify more passenger-carrying eVTOLs.
European AAM Troubles
Vertical Aerospace will struggle to fund its program through 2025. Lilium will not find a buyer with the means to certify its aircraft. Volocopter will shift its focus to China.
