CAE has installed what the company says is the first Boeing 777X full-flight simulator (FFS) to be located in the Asia-Pacific region.

The FFS, a 7000XR model, was installed at the Singapore-CAE Flight Training Center and will be ready to begin training from autumn, CAE said.

At a Southeast Asia market outlook briefing that Boeing gave at the Singapore Airshow Wednesday, the OEM said the region was expected to need about 62,000 new pilots over the next 20 years to support air traffic and airline fleet growth. Across the wider Asia-Pacific region, CAE sees the number of commercial pilots needed jump to 98,000.

The 777-9, the first of the much-delayed 777X program, is continuing its flight-test program and is expected to gain FAA certification in the second half of 2026.

“The 777X is central to many airlines’ long-haul strategies, particularly in Asia and the Middle East,” CAE president, civil aviation, Alexandre Prévost said. “With this simulator in Singapore, we are providing the training infrastructure where it is needed most, at the crossroads of Asia-Pacific aviation.”

The 777X FFS is fitted with CAE’s Prodigy visual system.

Separately, Philippines-based LCC Cebu Pacific announced at the air show this week that it had extended its training agreements with CAE that cover Airbus A320 and ATR 72-600 pilot training through 2037. Cebu and CAE established a joint flight-training academy in Clark, Philippines, in 2011.
