FARNBOROUGH—Turkish Airlines has signed an agreement with Turkish company Havelsan for eight full flight simulators (FFS) and four flight training devices (FTD).
The deal, announced at the airshow Wednesday, came on the heels of a separate order Turkish Airlines placed with CAE earlier this week for five FFSs and two FTDs plus options for two more FFSs.
Turkish did not specify the aircraft types for the new Havelsan order. The airline is already operating Havelsan simulators for Airbus A320neo/ceo and Boeing 737 MAXs and 737NG pilot training.
Turkish Airlines is building an additional simulator facility, set to be completed in 2028, and it appears the new CAE and Havelsan simulators are destined for that center. It also seems, given the number of new simulator orders, that Turkish Airlines has ambitions to become a major provider of flight training to other airlines, competing with long-time major European flight training providers like British Airways, KLM and Lufthansa.
Announcing the new Havelsan deal, Turkish Airlines chairman Murat Şeker said, "With these new orders, by 2033 the Turkish Airlines Flight Training Center will become one of Europe's largest flight training centers across three campuses, meeting the needs of Turkish Airlines while also providing training services for other airlines.”
