Following the resumption of Airbus A380 service by Lufthansa and Etihad Airways in June and July, respectively, there are now 10 carriers offering flights using the aircraft type in August 2023.

Emirates Airline accounts for about 68.6% of the capacity available this month, with 2.4 million seats available across 4,649 flights. British Airways (BA) ranks second with 240,600 seats and Singapore Airlines third with 233,600 seats.

The latest figures provided by OAG Schedules Analyser show that overall A380 capacity worldwide totals about 3.52 million monthly seats, equivalent to 65% of the capacity airlines offered in August 2019.

Dubai International (DXB) unsurprisingly tops the list when it comes to the top 10 airports worldwide, ranked by the most A380 departure seats during August 2023. There are about 1.16 million departure seats this month from DXB, which is about 82% of the total available at this time four years ago.

The data reveals that all 10 airports currently have a lower level of capacity than in August 2019. However, London Heathrow and Sydney are back to 91% and 90% of pre-pandemic levels, respectively.

OAG data shows that 81 airport pairs worldwide are receiving A380 flights during August 2023, up from 80 in July. Dubai-London Heathrow remains the biggest route by capacity with 205,223 two-way monthly seats, followed by Bangkok Suvarnabhumi with 127,696, and Dubai-London Gatwick with 102,176.

Singapore-Sydney and London Heathrow-Singapore are the only two routes in the top 10 that do not touch Dubai.

Overall, there will be around 6,944 A380 flights worldwide in August 2023. This is down by 36% on the same month in 2019, when the figure topped 10,800 flights. However, this month’s figure marks a rise of 49% on a year ago.
