IndiGo is accelerating its international expansion with plans to launch service to 10 new destinations, including long-haul routes to London, Copenhagen and Athens.
India’s largest airline by market share will begin its Western Europe operations with flights from Mumbai to Manchester, England, on July 1, followed by Mumbai-Amsterdam on July 2. Both routes will operate three times per week using Boeing 787s damp-leased from Norse Atlantic Airways.
Speaking ahead of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said the airline will add 10 more international destinations during the 2025-26 fiscal year, describing the move as “yet another important step” in the LCC’s global growth strategy.
The rollout of routes to London and Copenhagen will follow later this year and into early 2026, as IndiGo takes delivery of additional 787s under a six-aircraft agreement with Norse. The airline also plans to launch flights to Athens over the next 12 months, supported by the introduction of Airbus A321XLR aircraft into its fleet.
If IndiGo proceeds with planned launches, the LCC will enter a competitive India-London market already served by Air India, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Air India also flies nonstop between New Delhi and Copenhagen, but the India-Athens market is currently unserved.
In Central Asia, IndiGo will add four new destinations, as well as the resumption of nonstop service from Mumbai to Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan—both previously suspended due to Pakistan’s airspace closure. Tbilisi, Georgia, will also see increased capacity with new nonstop connectivity from Mumbai.
The carrier is also expanding in Southeast Asia. It plans to begin direct flights to Siem Reap, marking its entry into the Cambodian market, while increasing capacity on routes to Denpasar International Airport in Indonesia, and to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam.
On the domestic front, IndiGo intends to grow its network from 91 to 95 destinations. The airline is set to become the first to operate from Navi Mumbai International Airport and Noida International Airport in Jewar, which will serve the Mumbai and Delhi-Uttar Pradesh regions, respectively. Additional domestic growth includes the launch of service from Adampur Airport in Jalandhar starting July 1, and upcoming operations from Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad.
The expansion plans follow a strong financial performance, with IndiGo reporting a record net profit of INR30.7 billion ($359 million) in the fiscal fourth quarter ending March 31, supported by a 21% year-over-year increase in capacity. For the full fiscal year, net profit totaled INR72.6 billion.
The airline has also made progress in reducing the number of aircraft grounded due to engine shortages, which has dropped to the mid-40s from a peak in the 70s during mid-2024.
