TAAG Angola Airlines (TAAG) received its first Boeing 787-10 on Nov. 11 at Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (NBJ).
The aircraft, incorporated under a leasing arrangement, will play a role in long-haul connectivity and support route expansion plans outlined in TAAG’s strategic plan for 2024–2029.
“This delivery marks another crucial step in TAAG’s transformation journey,” the airline said in a statement. “The new 787-10 strengthens our fleet with next-generation technology, enhancing efficiency, capacity, and passenger comfort while advancing our sustainability goals.”
The 787-10, registered as D2-TES, joins the two 787-9s incorporated by TAAG Angola Airlines earlier this year.
The Angolan carrier intends to leverage the aircraft’s operational efficiency to explore new intercontinental markets.
This follows TAAG officially announcing in October the full transfer of flight operations to the New International Airport, Dr. António Agostinho Neto (NBJ), which became effective on Oct. 19.
“Consolidating flight operations into one single airport provides significant operational efficiency, fleet management synergies, and improved customer experience,” TAAG said, adding that the change supports efforts to position Luanda and Icolo & Bengo as regional hubs in Southern Africa.
TAAG’s current fleet includes six De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400s, three Airbus A220-300s, five 737-700s, one 787-9, three 777s and two additional 777s parked.
By the end of 2026, the airline expects to receive 10 new aircraft, including one additional 787-10 and eight A220s. The A220s will replace older 737s, while the new 787-10s are set to succeed TAAG’s aging 777s as part of a broader fleet renewal program.
