Flight Friday: With 2,000th Delivery, E-Jet Utilization On The Rise
Envoy Air American Eagle Embraer E175
With Embraer having recently delivered its 2,000th E-Jet, Flight Friday looks at how the E-Jet family’s monthly flight cycle utilization has progressed in recent years.
Embraer made its first E-Jet deliveries back in March 2004, handing over an E170 to US Airways for its feeder network and an additional E170 to lessor GECAS, which leased it to LOT Polish Airlines.
Since 2024, overall utilization within the E-Jet family has steadily grown with a 6% overall increase between August 2024 and August 2026, helped by an 8% growth of in-service passenger aircraft to 1,660 during the same two-year period.
The smallest family members, the E170 and E175, make up the bulk of the utilization, accounting for 60% of the combined fleet.
This number is bolstered by the fact that the E175 is used extensively in the U.S. regional feeder network and is currently the only in-production, U.S. scope clause-compliant E-Jet. E175s are still being delivered today, which increases the aggregated utilization.
The larger E190 and E195 were delivered from 2005 through 2022 and are entering the retirement window for some of the earlier machines.
Utilization share has dropped from 37% back at the start of 2024 to a little over a quarter by August 2026, due to the shrinking in-service fleet size and the introduction of the latest-generation E2 models.
The E2s have almost doubled their utilization market share of E-Jets from the start of 2024. With slow, but continual deliveries, the E2s’ in-service fleet’s aggregated flight cycles have increased.
With almost 300 E195-E2s on the order books, the E195-E2 will remain the dominant member of the E2s over the coming decade.
This data was put together using Aviation Week’s Tracked Aircraft Utilization database.
