Frontier Airlines will launch six-times-weekly Des Moines-Denver service Oct. 24 aboard an E-190. WestJet will operate seasonal weekly service from Quebec City to Cancun (Dec. 11-April 30) and Ft. Lauderdale (Dec. 12-April 24). It will also operate weekly Saskatoon-Phoenix service Dec. 17-April 29 and weekly Edmonton-Orlando service Dec. 18-April 30, as well as twice-weekly Ottawa-Las Vegas service Dec. 9-April 28.
American Airlines flew 11.97 billion RPMs in July, a 2.7% year-over-year increase, while capacity rose 3.1% to 13.76 billion ASMs. Load factor fell 0.3 point to 87%. American Eagle Airlines operated 782.9 million RPMs in July, up 8.2%, against a 10.6% lift in capacity to 1.03 billion ASMs. Load factor dipped 1.7 points to 76.1%.
The 17th Arabian Travel Market (ATM) took place in Dubai in May. The event attracted a massive 2000 products featuring more than 70 destinations, which cemented the region's importance globally for tourism and airlines. Duty Free retail turnover at Abu Dhabi International Airport grew 19% during the first half of 2010 to US $75 million, outperforming the airport's passenger growth of 11.7% over the same period. Furthermore, spend per passenger increased by 7.2% amounting to US $14.47.
Qatar Airways has expanded its operations to Egypt, with additional flights to both Alexandria and Luxor to commence over a four week period from August.
