Angola-based Bestfly is to operate an Embraer 175 as it expands its services in Africa.
The company, the bulk of whose 32-strong fleet consists of helicopters and executive aircraft, has taken on its second small narrowbody jet in the 175, which it will operate on behalf of two oil companies – Total of France and the Congo subsidiary of Italy’s ENI.
The aircraft will be based in the Republic of Congo at Pointe Noire, the main hub of the country’s oil and gas industry and the site of its only refinery.
Bestfly CEO Nuno Pereira said that the choice of aircraft had been made by the two oil companies and that the 175 will be flown under a management agreement for them. “It will be used for crew changes, charters, etc,” Pereira said. The aircraft will also be available for other duties in the region when spare capacity is available, he added.
The airline already operates a single Embraer 190, “mainly supporting the ACMI market in Africa. It doesn’t have a fixed base.”
Although Angola-based, Bestfly is focusing on expanding services outside the southwestern African nation, notably in Congo, Aruba and Dubai.
