SINGAPORE—The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has issued type certification for the Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2 regional jets, ahead of the potential delivery of the E195-E2 to boutique airline SKS Airways in 2024.

Malaysia will be the third regulator in the Asia Pacific region to certify the E2 after Australia and China. The Civil Aviation Administration of China certified the E190-E2 in November 2022. Singapore is expected to be the next country to approve the E2s, as LCC Scoot is also expecting the delivery of its first E190-E2 in 2024.

Scoot will also lease nine E190-E2s to operate on new leaner regional routes from Singapore.

“Following our comprehensive assessment, CAAM is pleased to grant the type certification validation to Embraer’s E195-E2 and E190-E2 aircraft,” CAAM CEO Norazman Bin Mahmud said. “We value Embraer’s spirit of collaboration towards our goal of instilling safety culture to ensure the highest level of safety, security and efficiency in the Malaysian aviation industry.”

The Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database shows China remains the largest operator of E-Jets in Asia-Pacific, with Tianjin Airlines, Guangxi Beibu Gulf Air, and Colorful Guizhou Airlines flying 62 older Embraer regional jets. Australia’s Alliance Airlines has 26 E-Jets in service.
