Toki Air Taps AACL For MRO

Japanese low-cost carrier Toki Air has signed a general terms agreement with Air Asia Company Limited (AACL) related to MRO services for its ATR 72 and 42 aircraft. AACL will provide services from its facility in Taiwan.

LTTS Opens New Repair Facility

Lufthansa Technik Turbine Shannon (LTTS) has opened its new engine parts and accessories repair facility in Shannon, Ireland. The new facility will add engine manifolds to LTTS’s specialist services and the company has created 25 additional jobs to support the new facility.

SIAEC Lands Parent Airline MRO Contract

Singapore Airlines has signed an $11.4 billion services agreement with SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) covering a variety of MRO and fleet management support services. The two-year contract begins April 1, with an option to extend for a further one-year period.

AFI KLM E&M Signs Corendon Engines Contract

AFI KLM E&M has signed a new contract with Corendon Airlines covering shop visits for six additional CFM56-7B engines. Under the contract, AFI KLM E&M will perform services from its Amsterdam engine shop over the next several months.

Liebherr Signs China Airlines Component Agreement

Liebherr-Aerospace has signed a long-term agreement with China Airlines to provide repair support services for a range of air conditioning and bleed system components installed on the airline’s fleet of 25 Airbus A321neos. It will provide material support and component maintenance services from Liebherr-Singapore.

GA Telesis Signs Honeywell Flex Shaft Agreement

GA Telesis has signed an agreement with Honeywell Aerospace giving it multi-year global exclusive distribution rights for CFM56-5B factory new Flex Shafts. The GA Telesis Distribution Solutions Group will support customers with the products via its regional distribution centers around the world.

LHT Integrates Honeywell Maintenance Analytics Into Aviatar

Honeywell's Connected Maintenance analytics are being fully integrated into Lufthansa Technik's Aviatar Predictive Health Analytics suite, which the companies say will grow to more than 100 predictors for multiple Airbus and Boeing aircraft types. Honeywell says the combined predictive analytics solution will help airlines increase aircraft availability and reduce costs associated with operations, flight delays and cancelations.

Jet Parts Engineering Gets FAA Approval For More PMA Parts, DER Repairs

Jet Parts Engineering and its subsidiaries Airline Components Parts and Aero Parts Mart have received FAA approval for 12 new PMA parts and three new DER repairs. The parts include cowl rub strips, thrust reverser seals, landing gear seals, starter valve piston rings, connecting tubes and more from a variety of commercial aircraft and engines.

Aeronaves Orders Eighth AEI B737-400SF Conversion

Mexican charter and cargo carrier Aeronaves TSM has ordered an additional Boeing 737-400SF freighter conversion from Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. The aircraft will begin modification in May at Commercial Jet in Dothan, Alabama.

Jet Aviation Gets Zurich Line Maintenance Approval

Jet Aviation has received approval from the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation for its line maintenance repair station in Zurich, which was first launched in May 2022 under a temporary extension of its Basel site authorizations. The station is now fully approved for line maintenance on a range of business jets.

Estonia-based Magnetic Group has rebranded Direct Maintenance as Magnetic Line. Magnetic Group acquired the line maintenance specialist in 2019 and says the rebranding is part of an overall strategy to unify its businesses under one name.

GA Telesis has appointed Matthew Schneider as vice president, head of trading within the Asset Transaction Group. BASF Inaugurates Shanghai MRO Station

BASF has inaugurated a new Part 145 MRO station in Shanghai that is certified by the Civil Aviation Administration of China to service Deoxo aircraft ozone and ozone/VOC converters. It is now applying for FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency Part 145 certification for the facility.

AkzoNobel Launches Digital Coatings Service

AkzoNobel has launched Aerofleet Coatings Management, a digital service aimed at optimizing maintenance schedules for aircraft coatings through the use of inspection data. It says the service can help calculate more accurate maintenance and repaint schedules and reduce costs.

John Dietrich Elected To AAR Board of Directors

John Dietrich, president and CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, has been elected to AAR’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. Dietrich also serves on the Board of Directors for Airlines for America and the Board of Governors for the International Air Transport Association.

New Teruel Airport Hangar

Spain’s Teruel Airport has opened a new hangar with capacity for two Airbus A380 aircraft, which it says will enable maintenance on two A380s or six A321 simultaneously. The hangar is poised to create 150 jobs at the airport.

SAEI, Collins Enter FlightSense Agreement

Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI) has entered into a 10-year FlightSense agreement with Collins Aerospace. The contract covers the airline's fleet of Airbus A320, A330 and Boeing 787 aircraft. Collins will provide SAEI with asset pooling support and services for the aircraft.

Aerovista Completes CFM56 Engine Sale

UAE-based Aerovista, an aviation asset manager and aircraft acquisition solutions provider, has announced the sale of one CFM56-5B4 engine to U.S. components specialist AeroDirect.

Marshall Aerospace Opens New Aerostructures Hangar

Marshall Aerospace has opened a new aerostructures production facility in Cambridge, UK. The new facility will see the production of auxiliary fuels tanks for P-8 maritime patrol aircraft, a military derivative of Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft. Additionally, the facility has incorporated few sustainability initiatives including, solar PV installations on the hangar roof, LED lighting with passive infrared control, high efficiency VRF air conditioning, and twin-socketed chargers for electric vehicles.

GA Telesis To Dissasemble Two Boeing 767-300s

GA Telesis has expanded its inventory of used serviceable material (USM) with the disassembly of two Boeing 767-300 aircraft. The company's Component Solutions team will will distribute the materials to airline and MRO customers globally from its U.S. and UK-based distribution centers.

ExecuJet MRO Services Gets European Line Maintenance Approval

ExecuJet MRO Services Belgium has been granted approval by the Belgium Civil Aviation Authority and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency to provide line maintenance in other European countries. The regulatory approval covers its mobile repair unit, which previously focused mostly on AOG situations.

SriLankan Airlines To Implement AMOS

SriLankan Airlines and Swiss-AS have partnered for the implementation of AMOS NewGen MRO system. The carrier will implement AMOS mobile and cloud hosting services, which the airline says will allow them to digitalize and streamline their maintenance procedures, increase efficiency, and reduce the overall costs through process automation.

Collins Launches New Technology Initiative

Collins Aerospace has launched its Powered by Collins Initiative, which seeks to collaborate with deep technology firms on advanced technologies that could be used to create new products and services for the aerospace industry. It is initially seeking technologies applicable to four areas: extravehicular space mobility, high-performance batteries, autonomy for small unmanned aerial vehicles and composites recycling. Applications for the program close on May 19th.

STS Gains UK Part 21J Approval

STS Aviation Services has been granted Part 21J approval by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. It says the approval complements its aircraft maintenance and modification capabilities, and will be a first step toward adding supplemental type certificate and Part 21G production organizations approvals to its capabilities in the near future.

Southwest Airlines Tests Drag Reduction Retrofits

Southwest Airlines has flown the first revenue flight featuring an aircraft with Aero Design Labs’ drag reduction kit installed. The Boeing 737-700 was one of five aircraft Southwest is using to run a network evaluation of the drag kits, which are aimed at reducing fuel burn rate and carbon emissions.

VAS Acquiring More A320-Family Teardowns

VAS Aero Services will acquire two additional Airbus A320-family aircraft for teardown from Avolon Aerospace Leasing. The A319-100 and A320-100 will be disassembled in Hondo, Texas, with used serviceable materials being distributed through VAS Aero Services’ airline operator customer base.

GA Telesis Sees Landing Gear Boom

GA Telesis has reported significant growth in demand for landing gear services. Its MRO Services Component Repair Group overhauled more than 100 landing gear legs in 2022 and GA Telesis says revenue for its landing gear business has grown 149% since the service was introduced in 2019, comprising 20% of total revenue for its MRO Services group.

New C&L Aviation Services Director Of Maintenance

C&L Aviation Services has appointed Michael Jackson as director of maintenance, where he will oversee all repair station activities. Jackson comes to C&L from American Airlines, where he worked for three decades, most recently serving as senior manager of technical operations.

Precision Aviation Group Acquires PTB Group

Precision Aviation Group (PAG) has acquired PTB Group, a provider of MRO and supply chain services with locations in the U.S. and Australia through subsidiaries Pacific Turbine USA Group, Pacific Turbine Brisbane, Pacific Turbine Leasing and International Air Parts. PAG says the acquisition expands is engine services and supply chain capabilities.

New IAMA Chairman of the Executive Board

The Independent Aircraft Modifier Alliance (IAMA) has elected Frans van de Pol as chairman of the executive board. He joined IAMA’s board in 2021, and also leads Fokker Services’ engineering business unit. Van de Pol will replace outgoing chair Marc Pinault, who stepped down on March 7.

HAECO Adds Engine Capabilities In Dallas

HAECO Global Engine Support has added a new eight-bay gantry system at its Dallas facility, as well as new Leap-1A and -1B tooling to support its technicians in performing hospital maintenance-level work. It plans to begin performing quick-turn maintenance tasks by mid-March.

Storm Aviation Gets Calibration Accreditation

Storm Aviation has been approved by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), which assesses companies against national and international standards related to conformity assessment for calibration services. It says the accreditation boosts trust that its tools and equipment “are being calibrated to the highest level.”

MTU Maintenance Gains New Approvals

MTU Maintenance has received new approvals at its facilities in Australia and Brazil. MTU Maintenance Service Centre Australia has gained Part 145 approval from Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority for CF34-series engines. MTU Maintenance do Brasil in Sao Paulo has gained FAA approval for the CFM56 engine family.

Ecube’s U.S. Facility Begins First Teardown

Ecube has begun its first teardown project at its new U.S. facility in Coolidge, Arizona. It is tearing down an Airbus A319 for inaugural customer Killick Aerospace. Ecube’s U.S. facility has welcomed more than 10 aircraft since it opened in October 2022.

Barfield Inks Dedienne Aerospace Agreement

Barfield has signed a partnership agreement with Dedienne Aerospace to distribute and service its ground test equipment. Barfield says the agreement will help it expand its distribution network and improve services for customers.

New MAAS Aviation CEO

MAAS Aviation has appointed Jan van Engelen as its new CEO. Van Engelen has more than 25 years in the aviation services industry, where he most recently served as Swissport’s CEO for Continental Europe. He succeeds Tim Macdougald, who will take on the role of chief business development officer.

Emirates Signs LHT MRO Contracts

Emirates has signed two major MRO contracts with Lufthansa Technik (LHT) for services on its Airbus A380 aircraft. Under the deals, LHT will overhaul main landing gears and provide base maintenance. The latter agreement is Emirates’ first time outsourcing heavy checks for A380s.

Joramco C Check Agreements

Joramco has signed an agreement with Air Europa to perform C checks on four Boeing 787 aircraft. It has also signed its first agreement with Cebu Pacific, under which it will perform C checks on its Airbus A330 aircraft starting this month.

Joramco Signs Emirates 777 Deal

Joramco has signed a maintenance agreement with Emirates to perform nose-to-tail C checks and modifications on the airline’s Boeing 777 fleet. The agreement runs through June 2024.

Etihad Expanding Abu Dhabi Maintenance Facility

Etihad Airways Engineering plans to expand the capacity of its aircraft maintenance facility adjacent to Abu Dhabi International Airport. In addition to adding 50,000 m2 (approximately 540,000 ft.2) of incremental space to the facility, it will build two new widebody hangars.

Safran Breaks Ground On Brussels Engine MRO Site

Safran Aircraft Engine Services Brussels has begun construction on its new site at Brussels Airport, which will support Leap-1A and -1B engines. It plans to begin operation in the first quarter of 2024 and recruit more than 80 staff over the next two years.

Beacon Signs First Helicopter Operator Customer

Embraer has signed its first helicopter operator for use of its Beacon maintenance coordination digital platform. Ocean Explorer, a Brazilian helicopter operator, will use the platform to streamline maintenance operations for its fleet of Airbus ACH160 helicopters.

AFI KLM E&M and Aerolineas Argentinas have extended the engine maintenance contract for CFM56-7B and CF6-80E1 engines powering the carrier’s fleet of 45 aircraft. The agreement consists of engine repair services and shop visits.

VAS Aero Acquires Two Boeing 737-700 Aircraft

VAS Aero Services has acquired two Boeing 737-700 aircraft for teardown and subsequent parts harvesting. The company will disassemble both aircraft at its facility in Marana, Arizona. Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2023. The company says that the disassembled USM will be distributed through its airline operators and MRO customer base.

SR Technics and Satair have signed five-year integrated material service (IMS) contract for more than 5,000 parts to be available on consignment stock and maintain on-time delivery.

TAT Technologies has signed a five-year contract extension with an undisclosed global carrier for auxiliary power unit (APU) MRO services. Under the deal it will support GTCP331 model APUs, building on contracts it signed with Honeywell in 2020 and 2021 to repair and overhaul APUs for key Airbus and Boeing platforms.

MRO Boosts Triumph’s Q3 Results

Triumph Group reported that its sales for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023 were up 21% organically from the prior year period, which it attributes to increases in commercial MRO and narrowbody production, as well as recovering military rotorcraft volume.

Aiir Innovations, a Dutch startup using artificial intelligence technology to automate aircraft engine inspections, has raised €2.1 million (approximately $2.3 million) in venture capital investment. It says it will use the funding to grow its team and expand globally.

Lufthansa Cargo Takes Flight With AeroSHARK

The first Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777F featuring AeroSHARK fuel-saving surface technology entered scheduled service on Feb. 3. According to Lufthansa Technik, which developed AeroSHARK with coatings specialist BASF, Lufthansa Cargo’s entire 777 freighter fleet will gradually receive modifications to incorporate the technology.

Ontic has signed a license agreement with Honeywell covering its vacuum generator and check valve waste management product line, which is used across Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 platforms. Under the deal, Ontic will adopt all existing contracts for the products, including service center agreements, to ensure continued maintenance support and spares.

AllClear Repair Services Gets EASA Part 145 Certification

AllClear Repair Services, a subsidiary of AllClear Aerospace & Defense, has received EASA Part 145 approval. Based in Miramar, Florida, it specializes in repair and overhaul of pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, landing gear, brakes and electro-mechanical systems for commercial and defense platforms. It says the new certification enables it to offer dual release certifications.

ATR has appointed Stefano Marazzani as its senior vice president of customer support and services. Marazzani has a background in aircraft maintenance, customer support and operations, most recently serving as CEO of SuperJet International.

New Iberia Maintenance Director

Iberia Maintenance announced plans to appoint Enrique Robledo as its new maintenance director, effective March 17. Robledo has held various maintenance roles at Iberia since 1999, most recently as deputy manager of the engine workshop. He will replace Andy Best, who will become maintenance director at British Airways.

Aftermarket distributor and MRO services provider VSE Corporation has acquired Precision Fuel Components, a provider of MRO services for engine accessory and fuel systems in the business and general aviation market. VSE says the acquisition expands its capabilities within business and general aviation and rotorcraft markets, complementing its existing service capabilities.
