PT Lion Air Group Taps ST Engineering For Engine Services

ST Engineering’s Commercial Aerospace business signed a five-year agreement with PT Lion Group covering CFM56-7B engine maintenance services powering Boeing 737NG fleets operated by Lion Air, Batik Air, Batik Air Malaysia and Thai Lion Air. ST Engineering will also offer the airlines its EcoPower engine wash services.

Cebu Pacific Signs Engine, Nacelle MRO Deals

Cebu Pacific has signed an engine maintenance services contract with Lufthansa Technik (LHT) covering what the companies say is “a significant number” of CFM56-5B engines powering its Airbus A320ceo fleet. LHT already holds several maintenance-related contracts with the Philippines-based airline.

Cebu Pacific also signed a multi-year NacelleLife service agreement with Safran Nacelles covering MRO of its Airbus A330neo nacelles. Under the agreement, the airline will also have access to Safran’s shared pool of nacelle components.

Collins Wins HNA Aviation Group Nacelle Deal

HNA Aviation Group selected Collins Aerospace to provide nacelle MRO services to its subsidiaries, Beijing Capital Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, West Air, Lucky Air and Guangxi Beibu Gulf Airlines. Under the three-year agreement, Collins will provide nacelle services from its Tianjin, China facility for CFM56-5B, V2500 and PW1100G engine variants powering Airbus A320 and A320neo aircraft.

Scoot Picks Embraer Inventory Planning Solution

Singapore Airlines subsidiary Scoot signed a contract with Embraer for the OEM’s Collaborative Inventory Planning solution, which is aimed at reducing costs by optimizing expendable spare parts inventory levels. The contract will cover all nine of Scoot’s incoming E190-E2 aircraft.

Pratt & Whitney facility

Pratt & Whitney Grows Asia Footprint, Innovations

Pratt & Whitney has opened a 48,000 ft.² expansion of its Eagle Services Asia subsidiary in Singapore. It says the expanded facility will grow its geared turbofan capacity by two-thirds this year.

Meanwhile, Pratt announced that its Singapore Technology Accelerator has delivered 30 MRO innovations since the accelerator was first announced in September 2022. The technology projects are focused on automation, advanced inspection, connected factory and digital twin technologies.

Malaysia Airlines Taps Collins, Safran For Support

Malaysia Airlines Berhad signed an avionics hardware and support agreement with Collins Aerospace covering its fleet of Boeing 737-8 aircraft. Collins will provide the airline with access to OEM-certified spares, repairs and service for components including air data sensors and communications, navigation and surveillance systems.

The airline also signed a three-year service contract with Safran Electrical & Power covering maintenance of electrical harnesses for CFM56-7B engines powering its fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.

EngineStands24 Introduces PW1100 Engine Stands In Singapore

Magnetic Group subsidiary EngineStands24 has launched a new Pratt & Whitney PW1100 engine stand product line in the Asia-Pacific region in anticipation of growing need for specialized equipment to support widespread inspection requirements for the engine type. The engine stands will be allocated to EngineStands24's recently opened Singapore hub.

Liebherr To Overhaul J-Air Landing Gears

Japan Airlines has signed a long-term service contract with Liebherr-Aerospace covering overhaul of landing gears for subsidiary J-Air’s Embraer E170 and E190 fleet. The overhaul program will start in mid-2024 and run until 2028.

AMETEK Singapore Gets Honeywell Repair Approval

AMETEK Singapore PTE has been appointed as a Honeywell authorized repair center for solid state flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders for Airbus A320/A330/A340 and Boeing 737NG/MAX and 777 aircraft. Under the five-year agreement, AMETEK will be able to offer full test and repair capability for the products.

Fokker Services Asia To Become Embraer Authorized Service Center

Fokker Services Asia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Embraer to become an authorized service center for the OEM’s first-generation E-Jets family. Fokker Services Asia previously obtained certification for E190 services from Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority in August 2023.

SIAEC Wins Air India Group Component Contract

SIA Engineering Co. (SIAEC) signed a 12-year inventory technical management agreement with Air India Group, under which it will provide component support coverage for the group’s fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft. The deal includes access to its inventory pool and repair and overhaul services for airframe and on-wing engine components.

Barnes Aerospace Opens Singapore Component Facility

Barnes Aerospace has opened a new component repair facility in Singapore to grow customer support in the Asia-Pacific region. It also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Singapore Economic Development Board to facilitate the expansion. Barnes Aerospace already operates an MRO facility and a manufacturing facility in Singapore.

Asian Airlines Select Pratt & Whitney EngineWise Services

Cebu Pacific Air, JetSMART and VietJet Air all signed EngineWise comprehensive service agreements with Pratt & Whitney as part of new orders for geared turbofan (GTF) engines. Additionally, JetSMART has opted for a support package with Pratt that will include inspections of GTF engines.

Korean Air selected Airbus’ Skywise predictive maintenance and health monitoring digital tools for its entire Airbus fleet, which includes A220s, A321neos, A330s and A380s. The airline previously adopted Skywise Core in 2021. The new tools will help Korean Air anticipate component failure and identify, prioritize, handle and analyze in-service events.

Qantas and Jetstar Airways have also adopted the Airbus Skywise Predictive Maintenance solution. The deals cover Qantas’ A330 family and Jetstar’s A320 family fleets, respectively.

SIA Engineering Co. (SIAEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Thales Solutions Asia to explore collaboration in component MRO and repair services under SIAEC’s Inventory Technical Management programs and its network of component shops.

ST Engineering, Honeywell Expand Component Services Partnership

ST Engineering has extended its component services and repair partnership with Honeywell for mechanical, avionics and Leap engine components. Under the partnership expansion, it will continue to operate as a licensed repair center for Honeywell’s components and use the OEM’s advanced technology and software solutions.

Philippine Airlines Extends Airinmar Services Deal

Airinmar has signed a multi-year support services extension with Philippine Airlines, under which it will provide a full suite of support services covering aircraft warranty and value engineering. It has been providing services to the airline since early 2020.

Air India Plans IFE Upgrades

Air India has signed a deal with Thales to equip 51 of its aircraft with Thales’ Avant Up in-flight entertainment (IFE) system. Under the deal, 40 of its Boeing 777s and 787s will be retrofitted with the technology and 11 new aircraft, including 787s and Airbus A350s, will be line fit with the technology.

Topcast, Honeywell Ink Boeing 737 Distribution Deal

Aircraft parts distributor and MRO services provider Topcast signed an expansion of its exclusive distribution partnership with Honeywell. The expanded agreement covers a variety of Boeing 737 mechanical components, systems and sensors for airline operators in China.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines Signs De Havilland Component Services Deal

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has signed a De Havilland Component Solutions Program agreement to support its fleet of five Dash 8-400s. The deal includes comprehensive component MRO services and access to De Havilland’s strategically located spare part exchange pool.

Pratt & Whitney Canada Adds Helicopter MRO In Singapore

Pratt & Whitney Canada plans to expand its MRO capabilities by creating a new overhaul line in Singapore for its PT6C-67C engines, which power the Leonardo AW139 medium-twin helicopter. It also plans to establish a new modular test cell at the facility. Pratt expects the overhaul line and test cell to be fully operational by 2025.

ST Engineering Signs Defense MRO Agreements

ST Engineering signed MRO agreements with Airbus and Embraer to provide support for the C295 and C-390, respectively. Under the Airbus agreement, ST Engineering will support regional C295 fleets from its facility in Singapore. Under its memorandum of understanding with Embraer, the companies will explore collaboration in engineering, maintenance and support service activities for the C-390 Millennium.

StandardAero Gets CAAC Approval For RB211 Engine Services

StandardAero has received certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to perform MRO services on Rolls-Royce RB211-535 engines. It says the approval will enable it to support Chinese operators of Boeing 757 aircraft from its facility in San Antonio.

Airbus subsidiary Satair signed a global exclusive distribution agreement with Telair, a supplier of aerospace cargo loading solutions. The agreement covers Telair’s full portfolio of products for commercial and military aircraft, including the Airbus A350, A330, A320/A321 family, A330MRTT and A321PCF, and Boeing 747-400F/-8F Main Deck Freighters and the 777 CRAF.

GE Aerospace Building ‘Smart Factory’ In Singapore

GE Aerospace aims to “revolutionize” engine repair with an $11 million transformation of its Singapore aircraft engine repair facility into a “Smart Factory” with cutting-edge technologies and processes, including automated inspection systems, innovative material removal processes and digitalization. The Smart Factory will expand its additive manufacturing technologies and processes for the repair of commercial jet engine airfoil components, focused first on high pressure compressor airfoils for GEnx engines, followed by CFM Leap engines.

SAESL Expanding Capacity

Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL) has announced a $180 million expansion, to increase its engine MRO capacity by 40%.The investment will allow the Rolls-Royce and SIA Engineering Company Limited joint venture to expand its engine strip-and-build module repair and component repair capabilities. It will also help SAESL to drive transformation through technology, including by developing new MRO processes.

SAESL will also establish an Advanced Repair Cell that will focus on industrializing three core technologies: additive remanufacturing, adaptive machining and non-contact measurement systems. The expansion is slated to begin in 2026.
