Fiji Airways announced two expansions to its maintenance partnerships March 25 that will support its Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 fleets.
The Fiji flag carrier extended its A330 component support contract with AFI KLM E&M until 2031. The longstanding deal, which has been in place since Fiji Airways first began operating A330-200s in 2013, covers maintenance, repair and overhaul of A330 components. The carrier also began operating A330-300s in 2016.
“This extension is crucial for us as it ensures the continued reliability and efficiency of our A330 fleet, which is central to our operations,” said Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Andre Viljoen.
According to Aviation Week Network’s MRO Prospector, AFI KLM E&M also holds an A350-900 component maintenance contract with Fiji Airways that began in 2019.
In Australia, Fiji Airways bolstered its maintenance support as it grows its international network. Heston MRO, which already services the airline’s fleet in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney, opened a line maintenance station in Cairns to support Fiji Airways’ Boeing 737-800s and MAX 8s. The Australian MRO will provide services including transit and daily checks, unscheduled inspections and AOG support.
Heston MRO first began providing maintenance services to Fiji Airways more than seven years ago. It holds approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji for Boeing 737NG and MAX aircraft as well as A330s and A350s.
Fiji Airways is set to begin a direct route between Nadi, Fiji and Cairns on April 10 with thrice-weekly service. The airline will operate Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on the route.
