Colombia-based carrier Avianca has signed a five-year contract with Lufthansa Technik (LHT) for condition monitoring services via the Aviatar platform on its Airbus A320 and A330 family aircraft fleet. 

The new agreement will enable Avianca to receive real-time information about the condition of its aircraft, engines and components during flight and when grounded. Currently, Avianca operates a fleet of more than 100 aircraft comprised of A319-100, A320-200, A320neo, A330-200 and Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft.

“The agreement we have signed with Lufthansa Technik shows our commitment to the digitalization of our airline and aircraft maintenance,” says Alan Oliver, maintenance control center director at Avianca. “Through the Aviatar platform, we will be able to receive in-depth data access to each one of our Airbus aircraft and its maintenance messages, which enables our work order tracking and scheduling to be much more seamless and integrated in the future.”

LHT says the platform helps with the immediate detection of faults and leads to an increase in troubleshooting efficiency while identifying repair solutions to enable higher aircraft availability.

“With the technologies provided through our Aviatar platform, Avianca will be able to proactively manage its fleet's condition by coordinating and preparing maintenance activities in a more efficient and effective manner,” adds Georgios Ouzounidis, vice president corporate sales for the Americas at LHT.

The new announcement further grows the ties between LHT and Avianca, which go back for more than 16 years. The German MRO already provides component support for the airline, following a nine-year agreement signed in December 2022 to provide parts repairs for up to 16 aircraft in its 787 fleet. 

LHT launched Aviatar in 2017 and the platform combines fleet management solutions, data science and engineering expertise to provide integrated digital services and products for airlines, MRO companies, OEMs and lessors.
