SR Technics is on track to roll out Leap-1A engine maintenance services to third parties next year.
After a period of industrialization and buildup of capability on the engine in Zurich, where it also operates two test cells, SR Technics will be able to undertake full overhaul and testing on the Leap-1A from 2027 in the open market.
SR Technics said it recently signed its first contract—a general terms agreement—with an unnamed operator in the Asia-Pacific region for Leap-1A third-party maintenance.
The Swiss MRO joined the aftermarket network in 2022 for both Leap-1A and -1B engines, which power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, respectively. To date, the maintenance specialist has undertaken Leap-1A MRO work under an offload agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines, a partner in the CFM joint venture with GE Aerospace.
In 2025, both parties extended their existing partnership for an additional eight years. In addition, the company is building capacity on the Leap-1A for third-party work. “The demand out there is such that we know we’ll have to do more than we’re doing today”, said Bo Lump, Global SVP of business development at SR Technics. Lump said the company also is targeting greater growth in piece-part repair on the Leap.
Ramp-ups are also underway on the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G geared turbofan (GTF)—the rival engine option for the A320neo. SR Technics unveiled its new designated PW1100G repair shop and reactivated test cell in September 2024. Lump said SR Technics’ operation has moved beyond industrialization into steady-state production. “We’re producing pretty well and getting to pace on the PW1100G,” he said.
The PW4000 widebody engine remains a long-term commitment for the company, with SR Technics repairing both the 94-inch and 100-inch versions, albeit not the 112-inch variant. “The PW4000 market is one where a lot of MROs are starting to exit,” he said. “We made the opposite decision to stay in. We’ve told the market, and we’ve told Pratt, that we’re in it for the long haul, and the business has expanded quite aggressively as a result.”
Lump said SR Technics is investing in tooling and people related to the PW4000 and recently inducted its first PW4000 engine in Bad Zurzach, a new facility located around 30 min. from its main Zurich campus that opened in January 2026.
