SINGAPORE—SIA Engineering Company subsidiary SIA Engineering Philippines Corporation (SIAEP) has been designated as an Embraer authorized service center for the E2 regional airliners, the first in the Asia Pacific region.

The final authorization is pending approval by relevant local authorities.

The announcement solidifies the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed a year ago, at MRO-Asia Pacific 2023.

Since 2017, SIAEC has been an authorized service center for the first-generation Embraer E-jets.

“As we grow internationally, we try to look at how can we do things with the same partner and reproduce that same safety and quality every single time,” Embraer VP of global MRO centers, Frank Stevens told Aviation Week.

Prior to the announcement, Stevens said such an MOU with other companies allows “open-ended” conversations on collaboration options, which could potentially cover third-party component supply and servicing, which is currently provided exclusively by Embraer’s own parts distribution center in Singapore.

The development comes as the Embraer E-jets gains traction in the Asia Pacific region. Singapore Airlines’ subsidiary Scoot has an order for nine E190-E2s, with two already in service. Virgin Australia is also acquiring eight E190-E2s based primarily in Western Australia.

The Aviation Week Network Fleet Discovery database shows there are 142 in-service commercial and government E-jets in the Asia Pacific region, not including China. This includes 31 operate by J-Air Japan and 25 at Alliance Airlines.
