SINGAPORE—Mammoth Freighters will establish a Boeing 777 passenger-to-freighter conversion line in Qingdao, China, through a partnership with Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering (Staeco). The facility will be the Fort Worth, Texas-based company’s first in the Asia-Pacific region, complementing its existing conversion operations in the U.S. and Manchester, UK.

The first conversion line is scheduled to open in September at Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO), occupying a two-bay widebody hangar. The first aircraft, a Boeing 777-200LR owned by Jetran, is expected to enter conversion in the fall, with a second conversion line planned to open in early 2027.

Staeco is a joint venture between HAECO, HAECO Xiamen, Shandong Aviation Group and Beijing Hua Kai Aviation Engineering Consulting Services. The company already performs Boeing 737-800 passenger-to-freighter conversions.

“This partnership brings together complementary strengths: Mammoth’s innovative freighter solution, Staeco’s established conversion capabilities and HAECO’s deep 777 engineering and maintenance expertise,” Staeco Chairperson Huang Enfang said in a statement.

Mammoth’s 777-200LRMF conversion program received FAA supplemental type certification in April.

According to Aviation Week Fleet Forecast data, approximately 81 converted Boeing 777-200/300 freighters are expected to be delivered over the next decade.
