DUBAI—Brazilian munitions supplier Mac Jee announced the revival of the former Mectron’s anti-radiation and air-to-air missile programs on Nov. 18.

Sao Paulo-based Mac Jee acquired the intellectual property for the MAR-1 anti-radiation and MAA-1B air-to-air missiles, the company disclosed during the Dubai Airshow.

Both projects have been stuck in limbo for a decade following the collapse of Brazilian missile house Mectron. The domestic missile developer ceased operations after its parent company, Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, became embroiled in the Lava Jato political scandal and lost access to credit.

Several former Mectron employees founded a successor company, SIATT, with part of Mectron’s intellectual property, but the status of the MAR-1 and MAA-1B projects remained unclear.

The revival of the imaging infrared-guided MAA-1B and anti-radiation homing MAR-1 mean they again become candidates to arm the Brazilian air force fighter fleet, including Saab F-39E/F Gripens.

The 205-lb. MAA-1B offers a maximum range of 15 mi. carrying a 15-lb. warhead, Mac Jee says in product brochures. The 600-lb. MAR-1 can strike targets at up to 43 mi. with a 198-lb. warhead, the company says.

Additional weapons programs will be added to Mac Jee’s product portfolio in the future.

“Together with these two already tested and recognized solutions, Mac Jee will soon announce two other programs, which our excellent team is finalizing,” the company says in a LinkedIn post.
