DUBAI—Edge Group is expanding its munitions portfolio as the Abu Dhabi-based defense technology provider seeks to fill out its production range.
In addition to the new Fast Responder series of cruise missiles, the company is introducing the WSM-1, a Mach 0.7, 290-km-range (180 mi.) stealthy-looking missile with foldable wings. The WSM-1 is exhibited by the in-development, stealthy Jeniah collaborative combat aircraft for apparent internal carriage.
The weapon, which would feature a 220-kg (485-lb.) warhead, is designed for inflight retargeting, with an imaging infrared seeker for terminal guidance. Attack profile options include sea-skimming for anti-ship missions, pop-up maneuvers and top attack.
Edge is also taking the wraps off of Dark Wing, a modular air-to-ground weapon, and Thunder-ER, a folded-wing addition to 250-lb. and 500-lb. guided bombs. The system should boost range beyond 80 km, while retaining 3-m accuracy.
On the uncrewed air system (UAS) side, Edge is adding the Jernas-M, a medium-altitude, long-endurance system for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance roles and strike. The UAS is designed to have endurance of 20 hr., a maximum takeoff weight of 1,200 kg and speed of 240 kph (150 mph). The vehicle, which has begun flight trials, has a range of 200 km and can carry a 280-kg payload.
The new Strike UAS is a tactical system carrying an electro-optical/infrared sensor and able to deliver small munitions.
The company also is adding to its counter-UAS portfolio with the Vortex-E, a small system using four quadcopter-like rotors and designed to minimize collateral damage.
