UK carrier easyJet is adding Cairo to its network for the first time, making it the 157th destination served by the airline.

Flights to Cairo Sphinx International Airport (SPX) will launch from London Luton Airport (LTN) on Oct. 31, operating year-round three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Cairo joins leisure resorts Sharm-el-Sheikh and Hurghada on the LCC’s Egyptian network from LTN. UK Country Manager Ali Gayward says the decision to add Cairo demonstrates the carrier’s confidence “in the resilient strength of demand for travel from the UK.”

EasyJet began flying to Egypt in 2008 with service from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Hurghada and Sharm-el-Sheikh. Since then, the airline has also offered flights to two other destinations in Egypt: Luxor and Marsa Alam.

Data provided by OAG Schedules Analyser shows easyJet's Egyptian network currently spans 10 routes and 8,466 weekly seats to and from the country. Flights are offered to both Sharm El Sheikh International Airport (SSH) and Hurghada International Airport (HRG) from the English airports of Bristol, LGW, LTN and Manchester, as well as to HRG from Geneva and to SSH from Milan Malpensa.

The launch of easyJet’s LTN-SPX service comes a day before Wizz Air also starts the same route. Wizz plans to offer three roundtrips per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays using Airbus A321neo aircraft.

Alongside the new easyJet and Wizz routes, the London-Cairo market will be served this winter by British Airways and Egyptair, which will each offer double-daily service between London Heathrow Airport and SPX.
