Canada’s Porter Airlines continues to build up its Embraer E195-E2 network, with routes to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to be launched from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) in January 2024.

The flights to the U.S. West Coast follow Porter’s initial foray into the U.S. with its 132-seat E195-E2s—namely, five routes to Florida destinations from YYZ and two routes to Florida from Ottawa to be launched in November and December.

From Jan. 16, 2024, Porter will open daily service between YYZ and LAX. From Jan. 25, the airline will start daily service between YYZ and SFO.

Porter will compete against Air Canada and United Airlines on the YYZ-SFO route and against Air Canada on the YYZ-LAX route. Star Alliance partners Air Canada and United codeshare on the routes.

“Our arrival in California will be welcomed by those looking for a new way to travel between the West Coast and Canada,” says Kevin Jackson, Porter executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

LAX Chief Operations and Maintenance Officer Michael Christensen adds: “LAX passengers will now have more choices to fly nonstop to Toronto—the second-most popular destination in Canada from LAX and [LAX’s] seventh-most popular international destination.”

Porter, which is based at Toronto Billy Bishop Airport, began taking delivery of E195-E2s in December 2022. The formerly all-De Havilland Dash 8-400 operator started building a domestic network with the Embraer aircraft, including a number of transcontinental routes, and is now preparing to move into the U.S. with E195-E2s.
