United Airlines plans to launch flights from New York Newark to Marrakesh in western Morocco later this month in one of the more eye-catching routes starting in October 2024.
Operations will commence on Oct. 24, with three flights per week using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. The route will become the second between the New York area and Morocco, alongside Royal Air Maroc’s daily service to JFK from Casablanca and Marrakesh’s only nonstop service to the U.S.
For United, the Moroccan city will be its fifth African destination in addition to Accra, Ghana; Lagos, Nigeria; and Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa.
American Airlines is also expanding its long-haul connectivity this month with the introduction of two routes from Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) to Brisbane, Australia, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The new daily seasonal route to Brisbane Airport (BNE) is set to commence on Oct. 26, utilizing 787-9 aircraft and covering a distance of 8,338 mi. (7,246 nm). This will be American’s farthest nonstop route, surpassing Los Angeles-Sydney flights.
American will also launch a seasonal daily route between DFW and Rio de Janeiro-Galeão (GIG) using 787-8s, joining existing service from Miami and expanded service from New York John F. Kennedy. The route marks a resumption given the carrier served the sector regularly until February 2015 and again for a limited time during winter 2017-18.
Air France is also beefing up its Latin America network this winter with the addition of Salvador, located in the northeastern region of Brazil. Starting Oct. 28, the carrier will operate flights between Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Salvador–Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport (SSA) three times a week using Airbus A350-900s. With this addition, Air France will expand its Brazilian network to five destinations.
Meanwhile, Aer Lingus is opening a 3X-weekly route between Dublin and Las Vegas from Oct. 25, while Delta Air Lines is launching a seasonal Orlando-London Heathrow route on Oct. 26, becoming the airline’s 8th destination served nonstop from London this winter.
Elsewhere, KLM is taking over Delta’s nonstop service between Amsterdam and Portland, and Air Canada is commencing a seasonal daily flight between London Heathrow and New Delhi that will connect to transatlantic services from Calgary and Vancouver.
