SINGAPORE—Vietjet Air is preparing to resume flights with the Comac C909, a little under two months after suspending operations with the Chinese regional jet.
The carrier says it will restart daily domestic services from both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao on Dec. 3, increasing to twice daily from Dec. 15 to meet holiday season demand.
While Vietjet did not specify the aircraft type, searches on the airline’s booking engine indicate the use of the C909. The aircraft is also the only type Vietjet can readily source on short notice that can both operate the sector range and accommodate Con Dao’s short runway.
Vietjet halted the routes on Oct. 18, following the end of a six-month wet-lease agreement with Chengdu Airlines. Reuters previously reported that the termination stemmed from high operational costs associated with foreign crews and maintenance support, as well as regulatory constraints under Vietnam’s aviation laws.
