SINGAPORE—VietJet Air has signed a letter of intent with CFM International to explore the feasibility of developing in-house MRO and repair capabilities for Leap engines in Vietnam.
Under the agreement, CFM will propose a consulting agreement to provide VietJet with advisory services related to assessing engine MRO requirements, capabilities, infrastructure, workforce and other industry considerations associated with a potential local maintenance solution in Vietnam.
“A strong aviation industry needs more than a modern fleet and an extensive network. It needs deep technical expertise and highly skilled people. Our work with CFM is an important part of VietJet’s ambition to build a more complete aviation ecosystem in Vietnam,” VietJet CEO Nguyen Thanh Son said.
“We hope this initiative will lay the groundwork for latest-generation engine maintenance capability, develop world-class engineering talent, and enable Vietnam to take on a greater role in the global aviation value chain,” he added.
VietJet is set to become one of the largest Leap engine operators in Southeast Asia. VietJet Group, including Thai VietJet, has an ongoing order for 200 Leap-powered Boeing 737-8s. Its Airbus A320neos are powered by the Pratt & Whitney PW1000G.
