Bangkok Airways commenced regular uptake of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on July 1.

The Thailand-based carrier is starting with a 1% blend of SAF on international services departing Bangkok to points including Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, both in Cambodia, Luang Prabang in Laos, and the Maldives. The flights are operated using Airbus A320-family aircraft.

While Bangkok Airways did not immediately reveal its SAF supplier, the fuel is likely derived from Thailand’s domestic oil company PTT Oil, following a letter of intent agreement signed in May.

The airline first tested SAF operations in a domestic pilot flight between Koh Samui and Bangkok in 2024.

Bangkok Airways is a member of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines, which collectively set a goal of 5% SAF uptake by 2030.
