Kratos Defense will use the Hermeus high-speed Quarterhorse aircraft as part of its support work for the U.S. Navy and Missile Defense Agency’s MACH-TB program.
Hermeus has flown its remotely piloted Quarterhorse Mk. 1 demonstrator, marking a key step toward follow-on development of supersonic and hypersonic vehicles.
The Edwards AFB test flight of Quarterhorse Mk.1 marks the first step on a path to follow-on high-speed test aircraft, including autonomous uncrewed products.
The hypersonic aircraft developer has completed low-speed taxi tests of its Quarterhorse Mk. 1 vehicle ahead of flight tests planned for later this year.
Under HyCAT, Hermeus says it will use its high-Mach-capable Quarterhorse vehicle to demonstrate key "enabling technologies for operational hypersonic aircraft."
Aircraft startup Hermeus received the first military turbofan that will be integrated into the engine core for the hypersonic Darkhorse uncrewed aerial system.
