Air Berlin will launch 3X-weekly Berlin Tegel-Los Angeles service at the end of March. It will increase 4X-weekly TXL-New York JFK service to daily from May. AirAsia X completed its switch from London Stansted to London Gatwick airport (LGW) Oct. 24. The long-haul, low-cost airline will launch 3X-weekly LGW-Kuala Lumpur Airbus A340-300 service in November, increasing to 5X and 6X-weekly from December-March.

UK airports operator BAA has decided to sell Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and keep Glasgow Airport (GLA). The planned divestment follows the requirement by the UK Competition Commission (CC) that BAA sell either EDI or GLA in Scotland.
Turkish Airlines (TK) CEO Temel Kotil told ATW in Istanbul that TK's hub at Istanbul Ataturk, which handles about 32.9 million passengers per year, is too small and has hindered the carrier's growth strategy. Kotil said TK already occupies "75% of the airport capacity," adding, "Experts say in five years from now [a] new airport will be ready." He said the final location for the new airport will be selected soon and construction is likely to begin by year end.
