HAECO Hong Kong expects its recruiting efforts to be buoyed by the Hong Kong government’s recent approval allowing foreign skilled trade professionals to apply for certain jobs experiencing shortages, including aircraft maintenance technicians.

Hong Kong’s Technical Professional List specifies eight skilled trade jobs that will open to skilled trade professionals outside of Hong Kong as of June 30.

HAECO hopes to recruit about 700 people over the next three years to address local labor shortages. While the MRO actively recruits in the local market, “we recognize the need to expand our recruitment efforts internationally,” HAECO Hong Kong CEO Peter Murton says.

“This new visa scheme allows us to tap into the Greater Bay Area, where we share a common language and cultural background. We are also looking beyond this region to ensure a robust workforce that can meet our operational needs,” he adds.

This new policy also “opens doors for trainees from other Asian countries, broadening our recruitment horizons,” the CEO says.

HAECO hopes the “first recruits under this initiative will arrive in Hong Kong within 4 to 6 months. Moreover, we expect trainees from the Greater Bay Area to onboard even sooner, with some returning from internships as early as three months from now,” Murton says.

In addition to HAECO Hong Kong, which operates three hangars for aircraft base and line maintenance at Hong Kong International Airport, the group also includes engine MRO HAESL, HAECO Global Engine Support, HAECO Component Overhaul, and HAECO ITM.
