SINGAPORE—The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has recognized the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA) Disassembly Accreditation, establishing a pathway for Chinese airlines and MRO providers to access used serviceable material recovered from aircraft overseas.
In an updated aircraft disassembly advisory circular, the CAAC identified the AFRA-CAAC Registry as a compliant overseas registration platform for aircraft disassembly.
AFRA said the framework provides greater clarity on the conditions under which material recovered outside China can be prepared for the Chinese regulated aviation market.
For qualified overseas providers, the framework establishes a CAAC approval pathway supported by controlled disassembly, documentation, registration and verifiable material provenance.
The AFRA-CAAC Registry is operated on Block Aero Technologies’ blockchain infrastructure and integrated with the Chinese civil aviation maintenance analysis center's public-information infrastructure. This allows Chinese users to verify recorded provenance when evaluating disassembled aircraft parts.
The recognition follows a 2023 AFRA-CAAC memorandum of understanding covering technical cooperation.
AFRA has at least 60 accredited organizations globally, including more than 40 specializing in aircraft or engine disassembly. The organization said its accredited companies collectively disassembled more than 300 aircraft and 500 engines over the past 12 months.
