Philippine Airlines Enters Lufthansa Technik, Joramco MRO Agreements

SINGAPORE--Flag carrier Philippine Airlines has signed maintenance services agreements relating to CFM56-7B engine MRO and Boeing 777 airframe maintenance.

First, Philippine Airlines (PAL) renewed its contract with German maintenance specialist Lufthansa Technik covering the MRO services for eight CFM56-7B engines. The three-year agreement encompasses the engines for PAL’s Airbus A320 aircraft fleet and takes effect from 2024.

The engine agreement is in addition to an existing total component support contract for PAL’s Boeing 777 aircraft fleet along with base maintenance services carried out by Lufthansa Technik Philippines, the company’s Manila-based subsidiary.

“Lufthansa Technik is a very reliable partner who ensures that our aircraft engines remain in optimal condition,” says William Tan, Philippine Airlines’ vice president of procurement and logistics. “Thanks to their technical capabilities and innovative solutions, they can significantly extend the life of our engines.”

The second PAL agreement unveiled at Aviation Week’s MRO Asia-Pacific event is with Jordanian maintenance company Joramco and relates to repair services for 777 aircraft. The new contract is an extension of a previous deal signed in summer 2023, which included longeron modifications, removal and installation of landing gears, and maintenance work before re-delivering the widebody aircraft into the PAL fleet.

The new agreement has been modified to include servicing and modifications for five additional 777 aircraft in the Philippine Airlines fleet with work to be carried out at Joramco’s facility in Amman.

“We are confident that this cooperation will not only continue but also serve as a gateway to future collaborations in new markets and geographical regions, further strengthening our footprints,” says Joramco’s CEO Fraser Currie.

PAL's fleet is comprised of 777, A350, A330, A320 family and De Havilland DHC-8-400 Next Generation aircraft operating out of hubs in Manila, Cebu, Clark and Davao.
