French aerospace company Safran is strengthening its industrial presence in Morocco as construction has begun on a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) shop for Leap engines in Casablanca.
The Safran Aircraft Engine Services Casablanca MRO shop was officially launched on Oct. 13 and is set to commence operations in 2027. First announced during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Rabat in October 2024, the facility will maintain CFM International Leap engines, which power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Spanning 25,000 m2 (270,000 ft.2), the MRO shop has been designed to be capable of handling 150 engines per year. The project is projected to create 600 new jobs by 2030, representing an investment of approximately €120 million ($139 million).
The company has also unveiled plans for a new Leap-1A engine assembly line dedicated to Airbus aircraft.
“By strengthening its presence here, Safran demonstrates its strong commitment to developing the Moroccan aerospace industry and boosting the local economy. These two new facilities will showcase both Safran and Morocco’s industrial excellence,” Safran CEO Olivier Andriès said.
