Magnetic MRO has opened a new hangar with three heavy maintenance bays at its Tallinn Airport facility in Estonia.

The company’s fifth hangar at the site adds 8,800 m2 of space, which will allow it to “scale critical checks, integrate more digital and data-driven processes and introduce services our customers are asking for,” said Jan Kotka, managing director of Magnetic MRO.

Magnetic added that it had now reached a “sweet spot” for base maintenance, balancing capacity, demand and capability. Going forward, it will turn its focus toward expanding its engine workshop capabilities.

Speaking to Aviation Week just over a year ago, Magnetic said it aimed to expand its workshop capacity from six CFM56-5/-7 spots to 12 by 2027, and to add CFM Leap capabilities.

It is also keen to keep new talent flowing into the business from Magnetic Training, its Part 147-approved training facility in Tallinn, which opened in 2018. This has been complemented by Magnetic Academy, which enrolled its first student technicians in 2024. The training is divided into rounds of two-week theory and two-week hands-on practice at Magnetic MRO facilities.

Some of these may already be working in Magnetic’s new hangar, which has been operational since the start of the year.

The hangar, designed with sustainability in mind, has a 150-kW solar power system. It also features specialized aircraft maintenance platforms including tail docks, wing platforms and access stairs.

According to Aviation Week Network’s Commercial Fleet & MRO Forecast 2026, airframe heavy maintenance in Europe will be worth $2.1 billion this year and will average about that amount over the next 10 years.

Of total airframe demand for the next decade, Airbus aircraft are expected to account for $10.4 billion and Boeing aircraft for $9.1 billion.
