FARNBOROUGH, England—Pratt & Whitney has named its new family of small, scalable collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) engines the Valox.
Targeting both CCAs and munitions such as cruise missiles, the Valox family of engines will be scalable from 500 lb. to 1,800 lb. of thrust, with initial development tests focused on the Valox 700—an engine aimed at effector munitions.
“We're making great progress on this engine family,” says Jill Albertelli, president of Pratt & Whitney’s Military Engines. The Valox 700 “is expected in the coming months to validate some more key design features,” she adds.
Derived from the additively manufactured TJ150 engine that powers munitions and decoys, the Valox builds on lessons from the GatorWorks FJ700 small turbofan.
The company is also developing a higher-power 1,500-lb.-thrust version of the Valox for use in small autonomous collaborative platforms under a $10 million U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory contract awarded at the end of 2025.
