Video: GCAP Gains Momentum With $6B Contract And Canadian Interest At Farnborough

Aviation Week's executive editor for defense and space, Robert Wall, reports on significant developments for the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) at Farnborough Airshow 2026.

The tri-nation fighter development between Japan, the UK, and Italy secured a $6 billion contract for Edgewing consortium to advance key technology maturation. In a notable expansion, Canada has joined as an observer—marking the first commitment from outside the original three partners.

Wall also notes speculation about Germany potentially joining GCAP following its departure from the Future Combat Air System programme, though industrial interests will ultimately determine this outcome.
