India represents the second-largest global market for trainers and light combat aircraft (LCA). It is poised to receive 275 aircraft by 2033 and beyond that has a requirement to buy another 73 aircraft. The largest share of orders is going directly to India’s state-owned aerospace company, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL).

Last October, India ordered 70 HAL HTT-40 basic flight trainers. HAL also continues to deliver Hawk Mk. 132 AJTs with support from BAE Systems with over 120 aircraft delivered to the Indian Air Force and Navy.

Plus, at least 18 Tejas training derivative aircraft will support the induction of 40 Mk. 1 and 73 Mk. 1A LCAs. In January 2021, India’s Cabinet Committee of Security approved a $6.25 billion acquisition of 73 Mk. 1As, which will be delivered beginning in 2024.
