LE BOURGET—Hamburg-based executive charter operator Luminair ordered three Falcon 9X trijets from Dassault Aviation here at the Paris Air Show this week.
Luminair, which obtained its air operator’s certificate in November 2024, so far has relied on three Cessna Citation XLS. The company is thus growing toward an ideal fleet size founder Algernon Trotter sees at between 20-50 aircraft. “I’m not saying we will definitely get there but in a dream’s world, that scale is optimal for both the aircraft investor and the company profitability side,” he said during a press event organized by Dassault.
In Luminair’s business model, the investors of the company are purchasing the aircraft and the operator is in charge of asset management, he said. All three new aircraft will be delivered this year.
They will be operated on a floating-fleet principle, as opposed to being assigned to a single base.
Luminair sees the Falcon 900LX as a differentiator. None of its competitors operate the type, Trotter said. Asked about other aircraft models the company considered, he mentioned the Falcon 2000LXS but emphasized the benefit of the three zones in the Falcon 900LX’s cabin. When a family flies, the children can occupy one of those zones, leaving the others to the adults, he said. Fuel consumption and runway performance were criteria, too, he added.
Since the beginning of 2025, Luminair’s current fleet has totaled 957 flight hr.
